Elko Travel Guide
Welcome to Elko!
Located in North Nevada, approximately 125 mi (201 km) east of Winnemucca, sits Elko, a city rich in history and filled with opportunities for outdoor excitement. Although Nevada is often thought to be warm all year round, Elko's winters offer a wealth of ice-fishing, alpine skiing and cross-country skiing adventures. In the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and throughout the Ruby Mountains to the east, visitors can enjoy snowmobiling on forest service roads, public lands and the backcountry of the open mountains. Summertime brings a plethora of activities, such as mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and rock climbing, in addition to Elko's various campgrounds and picnic areas. Learn about the area's rich gold industry on mining tours with the Newmont Mining Company or explore the local history at the Elko Railroad Park, Sherman Station and Northeastern Nevada Museum.
