Elko at a Glance
Located in North Nevada, approximately
125 mi (201 km) east of Winnemucca,
sits Elko, a city rich in history and filled with opportunities for outdoor excitement.
Although Nevada is often thought
to be warm all year round, Elko's winters offer a wealth of ice-fishing, alpine
skiing and cross-country skiing adventures. In the Wild
Horse State Recreation Area and throughout the Ruby
Mountains to the east, visitors can enjoy snowmobiling on forest service roads,
public lands and the backcountry of the open mountains. Summertime brings a plethora
of activities, such as mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and
rock climbing, in addition to Elko's various campgrounds and picnic areas. Learn
